MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte encouraged the Muslim Filipinos to continue to work with the government in its endeavor to promote peace in the country.
In his Eid’l Fitr or “The Festival of Breaking the Fast” message on Wednesday, Duterte said Muslims in the country should serve as “instruments of love, sacrifice, respect and selfless service.”
“May all Muslim Filipinos observe this day as a time for reflection, enlightenment and renewal of commitment to a much stronger devotion to the Almighty,” the President said.
“Take this as an opportunity to deepen your role as instruments of love, sacrifice, respect and selfless service and may each of you remain our government’s partner in promoting peace and understanding among Filipinos from all walks of life,” he added.
Vice President Leni Robredo, in a separate statement, called on to pray for Muslim brothers and sisters from Marawi City, who has yet to recover from the war that took place two years ago.
“As we mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, may this be a time to reflect on the values that are deeply embedded in the fabric of your culture – your value for selfless sacrifice, your genuine compassion for others, and your spirit of generosity,” she said.
“You serve as great examples to the rest of the nation of how we embody hope by feeding the hungry, clothing the homeless, and comforting the orphaned,” the Vice President added.
Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of Ramadan, Islam’s holy month, which calls for spiritual reflection through praying, fasting and abstaining from sinful behavior./PN
