Duterte to reveal new quarantine classifications today, says Palace

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce new quarantine classifications that will be implemented next month to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019, Malacañang said.

“The President will announce on or before the 29th, I believe,” Roque Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

He revealed that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) have already made their recommendations with the current quarantine classifications set to expire on June 30.

According to Roque, the IATF-EID has already informed local government units about their possible quarantine status to give way to appeals ahead of the President’s announcement.

Roque earlier said no areas in the Philippines will transition to “new normal” after the IATF-EID decided to recalibrate its community quarantine system in its resolution last week.

Areas found to be at high-risk of COVID-19 local transmission will be placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) or modified ECQ.

Those with moderate-risk of local transmission of the virus will be classified either as general community quarantine (GCQ) areas or modified GCQ areas.

Instead of transitioning to the “new normal,” areas with low-risk of COVID-19 local transmission will remain under MGCQ.

Sa ngayon po wala munang new normal. Ibig sabihin lahat ng lugar po sa Pilipinas meron pa rin community quarantine,” Roque said. “The changes in the community quarantine system are only temporary and subject to change.”

Western Visayas was first placed under MGCQ on June 1 and was extended until June 30 by the IATF-EID./PN
