Duterte vows teacher pay increase but…

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte assured teachers that they will get an increase in their salaries, too.

But it would not be doubled, said Duterte in a speech during the 37th Principals Training and Development Program and National Board Conference in Davao City on Friday.

Pero ang inyo kayo ang isunod ko. Pero hindi naman masyado doblado,” the President said. “Hindi talaga kaya and we’ve been trying to come up with a progressive. I’m not blaming anybody but simply there are too many Filipinos,” he added.

Duterte explained he increased the salaries of police officers and soldiers “because I was already expecting a bloodbath.”

Papasok pa lang ako sa kampanya, having been mayor of this city, which is in Mindanao, alam ko na na puputok. Kaya sabi ko sa mga abugado, dubladi ang sweldo ni,” the Chief Executive said referring to the Marawi battle that killed more than 1,000 people.

The Philippines currently has 880,000 public school teachers./PN
