MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte wanted his next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief to assure him that all drug lords will be killed in the government’s illegal drug campaign.
“They are all good. I want a better deal. It is not enough that you recommend to me. Kung sabihin mo, ‘Sir, pag ako ang pinili mo, patay lahat ng drug lords, patay lahat ng…’ ‘Okay, ikaw,” the President said in an interview with GMA 7’s Unang Balita on Monday, adding that he is having a hard time choosing the next PNP chief even if the three contenders were “good.”
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año has endorsed Police Lieutenant General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar and Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa to Duterte for the top post in the PNP.
The Chief Executive has not yet appointed the country’s next top cop since former PNP chief General Oscar Albayalde bowed out of the service last October.
Last week, Duterte threatened to take over the PNP if he could not pick on.
“Even a single case of corruption, wala ka na you’re out. I would rather not appoint anybody for that matter. Ako na ang hahawak ‘nun, I will be the one directing. Guidance and direction lang naman ako e,” the President said.
