MANILA – The government’s economic team is scheduled to update economists and members of the regional financial community on the Philippine economic performance and the developments in the fiscal sector today, Tuesday.
In an emailed statement, the Department of Finance (DOF) said the economic cluster is set to hold a Philippine Economic Briefing (PEB) at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Complex on September 18.
According to the DOF, Finance secretary Carlos Dominguez III will deliver the keynote address while Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia will provide an update on the latest economic performance.
Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno is likewise scheduled to present the fiscal strategy and reforms in the budgeting system and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. will discuss developments in the monetary and financial sector.
Aside from these, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and CEO Vivencio Dizon, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, and Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar will discuss the infrastructure program.
The briefing comes as inflation has hit a nine-year high of 6.4 percent in August, the fastest since the 6.6 percent recorded in March 2009.
Economic growth in the second quarter was also recorded at 6.0 percent, a slow down from the 6.7 percent the same quarter last year. (GMA News)
