MANILA – Dynamic Herb-Cebu Football Club notched its first win in the 2023-2024 AFC Cup group stage following a 1-0 victory over Myanmar’s Shan United on Thursday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
A conversion from Ken Murayama in the 28th minute was the difference maker as the Cebu-based booters became the first Philippine-based team to register a win in this edition’s AFC Cup.
Prior to the unlikely victory, Dynamic Herb-Cebu tasted defeats to Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown (3-0) last September 21 at Rizal and an 8-2 loss to McArthur FC of Australia last October 5.
With the win, Dynamic Herb-Cebu has moved up to third spot in the Group F standings with three points on one win and two losses, while Shan United remained winless in three games.
Dynamic Herb-Cebu and Shan United will once again face each other on November 9 at the latter’s homecourt at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar with the former looking for their second straight win.
Meanwhile, Stallion-Laguna Football Club wasted a two-goal cushion as they settled a 2-2 draw with Terengganu of Malaysia at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Malaysia.
Griffin McDaniel opened the scoring for Stallion-Laguna with a free kick six minutes into the game. The lead was doubled in the 41st minute with a right-footed shot from Junior Ngong Sam.
Terengganu managed to cut the deficit to 1-2 just before the halftime break on a close-range hit by Sony Nordé before the Malaysians tied the score in the 90+1 minute on a header by Adisak Kraisorn.
Stallion-Laguna remained at the bottom of Group G standings with 1 point on one draw and two losses, while Terengganu sat in second place with five points behind one win and two defeats.
Stallion-Laguna and Terengganu will face each other again at four in the afternoon on November 4 with the Philippines Football League squad as the host team in Binan, Laguna./PN
