MANILA – Dynamic Herb-Cebu Football Club continued its winning ways in the 2022 Philippines Football League. It posted a 6-2 rout of Mendiola 1991 Football Club on Saturday at the City of Imus Grandstand in Cavite.
Chima Uzoka and Roberto Corsame Jr. scored two goals each, while JB Borlongan and Daniel Gadia added a conversion each.
Dynamic Herb-Cebu surged to solo first place in the standings with 17 points on five wins, two draws, and one defeat.
Uzoka drew first blood for the Cebuano booters as he scored with a left-footed strike in the 17th minute. The lead was doubled 20 minutes later with Borlongan tapping the ball from close range.
Mendiola 1991, however, managed to chip in to Dynamic Herb-Cebu’s lead just before the halftime break with Junior Sam connecting on a spot kick after being fouled from inside the box.
Dynamic Herb-Cebu restored a two-goal lead at the onset of the second half with Gadia drilling a missed attempt by teammate Arda Cinkir but Mendiola cut the deficit to 2-3 anew as Jimson Crestal unleashed a powerful strike from near the halfway line.
That was the last stand of Mendiola as Dynamic Herb-Cebu cruised to a 4-2 advantage with Uzoka nailing his second goal from close range at the 81st minute before Corsame added two more goals at the 86th and 90th minutes.
With the loss, Mendiola’s second against the streaking Dynamic Herb-Cebu, they remained at sixth place in the standings with three points on the back of one win and five losses.
Over at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, Senegalese Abou Sy helped Stallion-Laguna Football Club get back to its winning ways with a 2-0 win over the Azkals Development Team.
The 26-year-old Sy opened the scoring for Stallion-Laguna with a fantastic strike from outside the box in the 31st minute before doubling the lead in the second half with a left foot finish in the 73rd minute.
Stallion-Laguna thus snapped its three-game losing skid as it moved up to fourth place with nine points on three wins and three losses, Azkals sit in fifth place with four points on the back of one win, one draw, and two losses./PN
