KALIBO, Aklan – A simple Quick Response (QR Code) system for tourists visiting Boracay Island will be developed by the provincial government of Aklan following the easing of restrictions.
Gov. Jose Enrique Miraflores said they will make the pre-entry requirement easier to facilitate travel of tourists to Boracay Island.
With the relaxed restrictions, the new governor issued Executive Order No. 003 on July 4, 2022 lifting the QR code pre-entry requirement for Aklanons and returning travelers whose point of destination is mainland Aklan only.
Miraflores wants to streamline the QR code system to keep the influx of Boracay tourists in check.
From this date, travelers will be permitted to enter mainland Aklan without the need to submit a complete digital registration, but this does not apply to Boracay-bound tourists.
Still, tourists entering the island are required to access the QR code via AkQuire system in www.touristboracay.com and always comply the minimum health guidelines.
Travelers need to prepare their coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination card or certificate, hotel booking confirmation, travel details and personal information to get a QR-code electronically. For unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers, they need to present a negative swab or saliva test result within 72 hours before travelling to Aklan.
Moreover, COVID-19 test on arrival and isolation upon arrival in Boracay Island are not required for inbound tourists.
International flights have resumed regular operations on June 17, 2022 from Incheon, South Korea to Kalibo, Aklan carrying foreign tourists since the onset of coronavirus pandemic./PN
