SAN JOSE, Antique – Antiqueños were reminded about eating in moderation during the many expected parties during the Christmas season.
“Let moderation be your mantra,” said Dr. Ric Noel Naciongayo, chief of the Integrated Provincial Health Office, as he made the early reminder Monday “so people would remember it.”
The intake of fatty and sweet food, particularly abundant during the Christmas season, may lead to hypertension and diabetes, Naciongayo said.
“Alcohol intake should also be controlled,” he said. “It would be much better if you celebrate Christmas without getting sick or meeting a vehicular accident.”
Late-night merrymaking could also cause stress, which could affect one’s immune system, the health official added.
Meanwhile, Naciongayo said he has yet to meet with the Bureau of Fire Protection’s provincial office, local government units and other concerned government agencies with regard to the regulation of firecracker sale and the establishment of firecracker zones.
The Integrated Provincial Health Office has the same goal as the government – zero firecracker-related injury during the Christmas and New Year celebrations – he said.
Naciongayo said they will await a directive from the Department of Health central office with regard to the “White Code Alert” in hospitals.
“The DOH usually raises the White Code Alert starting December,” he said.
White Code Alert places all hospital personnel on standby for deployment and augmentation whenever needed to render prompt medical and other services to patients. (With Philippine News Agency/PN)
