BACOLOD City – The construction of the P200-million road under the Bacolod-Negros Economic Highway project has begun.
The Bacolod-Negros Economic Highway is a 21-kilometer (km) road covering barangays Sum-ag, Cabug, Felisa, Mansilingan, Estefania, Granada, Mandalagan, and Bata in the city.
On Friday, Rep. Greg Gasataya and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) led the groundbreaking ceremony for the 2-km road in Barangay Mansilinganwhere some national government agencies plan to operate soon.
The 2-km road is part of the Bacolod-Negros Economic Highway project’s Phase 1.
Last year, the DPWH started building a 3-km road from Barangay Sum-ag to Barangay Cabug, which is also under the project’s Phase 1.
The DPWH allocated P300 million for the construction of the 3-km road.
Moreover, City District Engineer Abraham Villareal said P400 million will be allocated for the 6-km road construction under the highway project’s Phase 2, which is eyed to start in the second quarter this year.
The Bacolod-Negros Economic Highway has an overall budget of P4.6 billion, according to Gasataya.
This may still increase due to the price hike of construction materials, said Villareal./PN
