ILOILO — Eight fishermen, who were reported missing since October 22 in the waters off Carles town, have been safely rescued and are now in good health, confirmed the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Iloilo Station.

Commander Jan Terazona reported that the fishermen were located and recovered in separate operations with the assistance of passing ships.

The fishermen ventured into the sea ignoring a PCG advisory that warned of perilous conditions due to Tropical Storm Kristine.

Among the rescued were Joecy Bordan from Barangay Buaya, Carles, and a person known as Bonie from Barangay Gogo, Estancia. They were saved by a ship en route to Manila.

Meanwhile, Noe Verano, two individuals identified only as Ekig and Negro, all from Barangay Barangcalan in Carles, and two other fishermen were found in Masbate City.

Commander Terazona highlighted the critical role of the swift actions by the crews of the passing vessels in the successful rescue of the fishermen.

According to officials, six of the rescued are currently receiving care in Masbate, while two were transported to Manila aboard a cargo ship./PN
