ILOILO City – Senate health committee chairman Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito will grace today’s groundbreaking ceremony of the Regional Heart and Lung Center of the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) and the unveiling of the project perspective of the Heart, Lung and Kidney Center of the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC).
Ejercito helped facilitate the approval of the P900-million budget of the two projects.
“I am happy to have helped bring about these dream projects. This is my simple way of giving back to the land of my mother, Mayor Guia Gomez, whose mother is from the district of Molo,” said Ejercito.
Gomez, who arrived here yesterday ahead of her son, said she spent some fruitful years of her childhood in Molo, the birthplace of her mother Paz Guanzon.
She recalled how she would enjoy summer here, including joining the Flores de Mayo at the Saint Anne Parish Church or Molo Church.
Meanwhile, the six-storey WVMC Heart and Lung Center that will be built will house the thoraco-cardiovascular operating rooms, surgical intensive care units, coronary care units, non-invasive cardiology section, vascular section, pulmonary section, wards and private rooms.
Senator Ejercito, who authored the recently-approved Universal health Care Law, expressed support to major health programs of the WVMC especially its plan to expand to become a 700-bed medical center, as well as that of WVSUMC.
He also credits his chief political officer of almost five years, Iloilo City congressional candidate Julienne “Jam-jam” Baronda, for bringing him to these two hospitals where he saw the needs first-hand and for helping in the paper work and doing the legwork until the projects were approved./PN
