Election splits ‘best friends’ in E.B. Magalona town

BACOLOD City – An attempt for a unified mayoralty and vice mayoralty ticket between Love Negros and United Negros Alliance (UNEGA) in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental has failed.

Now two “former” best friends are up against each other for the municipal mayor’s position.

Provincial Board member David Albert Lacson of UNEGA will oppose reelectionist Mayor Marvin Malacon of Love Negros.

Love Negros head and 3rd District representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said they wanted Malacon to seek reelection with Lacson as his running mate.

But this plan failed as Malacon turned it down. The incumbent mayor filed his certificate of candidacy (COCs) on Monday with Councilor Melvin Matulac as his vice mayor.

Lacson told Panay News via text message that he will file his COC for the mayoral position today – the last day of the filing period – along with his vice mayoral candidate.

In 2016, Lacson supported Malacon in the mayoral race against his cousin former Provincial Board member Patrick Lacson./PN
