ILOILO City – With the elections concluded, the focus shifts to community progress, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas. He called on newly-elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to collaborate for the advancement of their localities.
Addressing the officials at a mass oath-taking ceremony at the Iloilo City Hall grounds, the mayor emphasized the urgency of addressing community issues, especially in the post-pandemic recovery period.
“We have a mere two years — a brief but crucial window — to tackle the multitude of challenges ahead, emerging from the pandemic. I urge our barangay officials, particularly those victorious in the elections, to reach out to their former rivals,” said Treñas.
He added: ‘”It is imperative that we forge bonds and work collectively to unearth solutions.”
Treñas urged the grassroots leaders to set aside political differences for the greater good and pointed out the difficulty of managing barangays marred by factionalism.
Concluding his address, Treñas assured the barangay officials of the city government’s support.
“Let’s work in harmony, putting aside political heat. The city government is committed to backing all barangays, with the aim of fostering the well-being of our city,” he declared./PN
