MANILA – Electronics, baby products, and health and beauty products were among the most sought after goods in online shops this Christmas season, according to Juan Pavez Spencer, CEO of Lazada E-Logistics Philippines.
“Since the start of the last quarter of the year, most of the products bought by Filipinos are beauty products, creams, baby products and electronics,” he said.
The e-commerce platform on Sunday launched its biggest global sale event of the year, the 11.11 Shopping Festival, which offers up to 90 percent discount on products offered.
As of 9 a.m. on Sunday, Spencer said the online shopping website has already hit 60 percent of its daily target. They are expecting sales to double from last year’s 11.11.
Journalists were given a chance to tour the 54,000-square meter flagship warehouse of the company in Cabuyao, Laguna, where around 5 million items are stored and packed for delivery. The warehouse is also gearing up for the expected surge of items to be purchased online this gift-giving season.
Spencer believes “convenience” is the main reason why most Filipinos have switched to online shopping.
“Online shopping is very convenient. Basically, people can shop whenever they want, wherever they want. Most use mainly mobile phones,” he explained.
The e-commerce platform also promised to encourage and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in selling their products online, saying e-commerce is a booming industry.
“We want to give SMEs access to the online world… Local sellers are welcome, any category is open – groceries, fashion products, local brands of electronics. We are all for expansion since e-commerce is booming,” Spencer said.
Spencer said they are willing to assist SMEs to create their own brands and help their businesses flourish. (ABS-CBN News)
