GUIMARAS – Approximately 400 of the nation’s top cyclists are set to assemble in this island province for the Philippine National Championships for Enduro and Cross-Country Marathon (XCM) scheduled for Oct. 21 and 22.
The Enduro Mountain Bike Race, taking place in Barangay Ravina in Sibunag town, is anticipated to have 200 entrants.
This event, endorsed by Philcycling and recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale, serves as a World Cup qualifier and is spread out over five intense stages.
On the other hand, about 200 cyclists will participate in the 63-kilometer XCM, which promises to be an exciting race across the island’s picturesque landscapes.
The route begins at the Jordan Central School in the town of Jordan and will course through San Lorenzo, Sibunag, and Nueva Valencia towns.
Top performers from both races are set to receive cash rewards and the honor of representing the Philippines in global tournaments.
In addition to the race, spectators can look forward to the Bike Expo: Tech, Trade, and Food Fair, which will commence on Oct. 19 in Barangay Ravina.
The provincial government, under the leadership of Gov. JC Rahman A. Nava, is in full swing with the preparations for what is touted as this year’s premier cycling event in the country.
This initiative is aligned with Nava’s “Kabataan: FIRST” vision to bolster Guimaras’’ tourism sector.
By hosting such significant events, Nava aims to position Guimaras as the foremost biking destination in the Philippines. (With a report from the provincial government of Guimaras)/PN
