ILOILO City – Negrense Fritzarn Suclan, one of the standouts of the Iloilo City-based basketball club Elite Lab, is set to pursue his collegiate career with the Adamson University Falcons in the UAAP.
The Pontevedra, Negros Occidental native was recruited by Falcons head coach Nash Racela after seeing him in try-out recently, Elite Lab team manager Eugene Chua said.
“Fritz is one of the best players in Elite Lab. He is very hardworking and disciplined so I am not surprised that he is realizing his dreams of playing in Manila,” Chua told Panay News on Thursday.
“He actually tried out with a number of schools during the summer but we feel that he will get more opportunities to blossom under the guidance of coach Nash at Adamson,” he added.
The 6-foot-3 Suclan was previously playing local leagues in Negros Occidental before being recruited by St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets head coach John Guanco.
Suclan was then admitted by Guanco to the Elite Lab, where he has developed his skills further with daily training and exhibition matches with basketball clubs in Western Visayas.
Suclan has actually made his debut with Adamson University in some of their preseason tournaments in preparation for the UAAP men’s seniors basketball tournament later this year.
Suclan is the second Negros Occidental-based basketball cager for the Falcons this season aside from incoming second year guard Joseph Fuentevella, who hails from Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, Negrense guard Irele Galas has opted to play his collegiate career with Western Institute of Technology in Iloilo City despite having some offers from Manila-based schools.
“Irele has decided to stay put here in Iloilo City as he continues to improve his skills with Elite Lab but the University of the Philippines has said to me that they will take a look at him again next year for possible recruitment,” Chua said./PN
