MANILA – Just like any provincial athlete, Ilongga cager Cindy Lopez dreamed of playing in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), but opportunity came to her from somewhere else.
Lopez immediately grabbed the opportunity to play for Enderun College Titans in the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU).
In an interview with Iloilo Sports LANG she stated: “Before, pangarap ko talagang makalaro sa UAAP but my coach gave me the opportunity to play for Enderun College so I grabbed it. It is still in Manila,”
“I have no regrets even if I did not fulfill my UAAP dream. Enderun College is a very good school and I am very contented here,” the Lambunaonon added.
The five-foot-six Lopez was a former standout of the Calinog National Comprehensive High School before she moved to the University of Perpetual Help in Manila for her Grade 12 studies.
She was then recruited to play for Enderun College where she was named as Rookie of the Year in 2019 and became part of the team’s championship run in NAASCU.
“I am very proud of my team because we are four-peat champions in NAASCU,” she said. “I was hoping that we can get our fifth straight but the pandemic situation prevented it.”/PN
