MANILA – Enderun College Lady Titans retained its championship in the 21st National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) women’s volleyball tournament after completing another unbeaten season.
The Lady Titans clinched its second consecutive tiara after scoring a 25-14, 25-13, 25-15 straight set victory over Our Lady of Fatima University in a one-game finale on Thursday at the West Rembo Sports Complex.
Erika Jin Deloria was named NAASCU women’s volleyball Most Valuable Player, while fellow Negrense Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo was named Best Setter for the second straight season.
“Masaya na nakuha namin ang championship. Nagbunga ang pinaghirapan namin sa training for how many months,” Deloria said. “It’s a total team effort talaga since lahat kami nagtulong-tulong para dito.”
Deloria and Almendralejo, along with last season’s MVP Shane Carmona and Aurea Alvero were all former standouts of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts secondary girls volleyball team.
Also receiving individual citations from the Lady Titans are Michaella Ma as Best Middle Blocker, Jennalyn Dulay as Best Libero, and Ariel “Dong” Dela Cruz as NAASCU Best Coach.
The Lady Titans made its presence felt in the opening set as they jumped to a quick 21-10 edge. OLFU tried to make a run with consecutive points, but an attack error handed the set to Enderun.
The Lady Titans had another strong start in the second frame for a 19-8 advantage before they managed to establish a 2-0 set advantage following a massive 12-point set win.
Enderun continued its dominance in the third set as they quickly established a 10-5 advantage. OLFU still kept the match close at 9-15 before the Lady Titans pulled away for good.
Also part of the Lady Titans champion team are Althea Botor, Zenneth Perolino, Ashanti Quiocho, Chreizel Aguilar and SJ Barilla./PN
