Spin Dryers and Tumble Dryers may also work hand in hand. It can be used separately or together. A spin dryer does not use heat to get clothes dry. Instead it rotates the tub at great speed enabling water to be spun out due to centrifugal force. When using a tumble dryer, putting the clothes in the spin dryer first will remove majority of the water and the time taken to dry clothes in the tumble dryer will be greatly reduced. Therefore, clothes are subjected to lesser heat exposure to better maintain its color and longevity.
A typical tumble dryer uses around 2400 Watts of electricity while a spin dryer uses just around 240 Watts. This is purely because heating the inside of the tumble dryer requires a lot of electricity whereas powering the small motor in a spin dryer does not. Typically, using the spin dryer for five minutes will reduce the time required in the tumble dryer by half an hour. Therefore, savings in electricity per load can be achieved.
The efficiency of a spin dryer is the key, since it should ideally be able to pay for itself within its operational lifetime with electricity savings. In addition, if the aim is to get clothes dry using as little energy as possible, an efficient unit is naturally preferable.
When purchasing a spin dryer, users must typically check the rotational speed or rotations per minute (RPM) which is typically around 1,600. Aside from RPM, users must also check the power consumption, efficiency and the load capacity.
