ARIANA Grande has broken her silence one week after her ex-boyfriend, 26-year-old Mac Miller, was found dead of an apparent overdose inside his San Fernando Valley home.
Grande had previously reacted to his death with a captionless black-and-white photo of Miller, presumably taken by her, that she posted on Instagram two days after his death.
She returned to Instagram on Friday to share another, even more heartbreaking tribute to the late rapper, adding a note to a sweet camera-phone video of Miller giggling and goofing off with her over dinner.
Grande disabled her Instagram comments last week after internet trolls spammed her social media, cruelly accusing her of causing Miller’s death. Grande and Miller, who met in 2012 after recording “The Way” and became romantically involved in 2016, broke up last May, after which Grande began dating her current fiancé, “Saturday Night Live” comedian Pete Davidson, to who she is now engaged. TMZ’s initial (and later revised) breaking-news report about Miller’s death irresponsibly implied that Grande was to blame, saying Miller had “had trouble recently with substance abuse … in the wake of his breakup with Ariana Grande.”
Comments are still disabled on Grande’s newest Instagram post.
Earlier this week, Miller’s friend Shane Powers spoke out in support of Grande on his podcast, “The Shane Show,” calling the 25-year-old pop singer “an unbelievably stabilizing force in [Miller’s] life” and saying, “She was incredible when he was first sobering up. She was a f***ing ‘G’ to him. There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana. … This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy.”
Also this week, Grande’s older brother, Frankie Grande – who has struggled with his own addiction issues – posted a tribute to Miller, writing: “He was a good friend and was wonderful to my sister. He was the reason I went to the rehabilitation center where I was detoxed safely from all of the drugs alcohol and medications I was taking, when I couldn’t imagine living without them.”
Miller, whose real name was Malcolm McCormick, died on Sept. 7. An autopsy has been completed, but a cause of death is still to be determined, pending toxicology results. (ET)
