ILOILO City – Parents and learners are given the heads-up: Enrollment for the new academic year 2021-2022 will start on Aug. 16 until Sept. 13.
Still, with the threat of the ongoing coronavirus disease pandemic, there will be no face-to-face classes, whether in partial or full scale, unless permitted by President Rodrigo Duterte, according to the school calendar issued by the Department of Education (DepEd) recently.
How to enroll?
The DepEd Schools Division of Iloilo said the conduct of enrollment would vary depending on the community quarantine classification of the areas as well as the capacity of the schools in holding enrollment via various modes.
In Iloilo, as stated in its Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan, there are four ways to enroll:
One is the adviser-based enrollment wherein communication would only be between the advisers of the previous and new school year.
Parents and learners shall only comply with requirements for enrollment such as the report card.
“Mahulat lang sila sang confirmation sang adviser signifying that they are already enrolled,” said Leonil Salvilla, information officer of the DepEd in Iloilo. “We assume nga ang bata kon napasaran ‘ya man lang last school year automatic masaka man sa next grade level.”
Enrollment can also go virtually.
“Puede man online-based, may mga schools kita nga nagahatag sang link sa aton nga parents and kabataan and online form nga puede ka-fill out providing the required information para ma-consider sila as enrolled,” said Salvilla.
Parents and students can also enroll through text or call.
Often, a focal teacher per grade level is assigned to entertain the call or messages.
Lastly, “hand carry” submission could also be possible, especially to parents and students residing in areas without internet or reception.
To note, the DepEd Schools Division of Iloilo is targeting 526,067 public school learners in the new school year, excluding the learners in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and Special Education, among others, which are currently at 30,000 to 40,000.
NO FACE-TO-FACE
With Sept. 13 as the opening date, classes shall end on June 24, 2022.
“The school year shall consist of 209 school days, inclusive of Saturdays and the five-day midyear break,” the DepEd said.
Blended learning approach would still be featured in the delivery of basic education.
Christmas break will be on Dec. 20 with classes resuming on Jan. 3, 2022.
Meanwhile, the DepEd said private schools and state/local universities and colleges have the choice to implement or deviate from the school calendar. However, they could not hold classes later than the official school year opening date.
“Any deviation from the school calendar shall be reported to the respective regional offices in advance,” the DepEd added.
In the alternative learning system (ALS), learning intervention shall formally open on the same date (Sept. 13). The program duration will be dependent on the learners’ educational background or existing knowledge level prior to enrollment in the ALS program.
Meanwhile, according to Dr. Ramir Uytico, director of the DepEd in Region 6, the department has prepared its Basic Education-Learning Continuity Plan “to be ready for another challenging educational scenario.”
“Despite its limitations, it continues to nurture each learner with the help of the parents, community and the stakeholders,” Uytico told Panay News./PN
