EOC suspends vaccination in two malls, 17 vaccinators contract with COVID-19

Bacolod City- The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) here had temporarily suspended the vaccination operation in SM City Mall and Ayala Malls Capitol Central in this city after 17 of its vaccinators were tested positive for coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19).

Disinfection will be done also at the said vaccination centers to ensure the safety of the public, Doctor Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical and data analysis of the EOC said.

He disclosed that the vaccination in SM City Mall will resume on Jan. 25, and in Ayala Malls Capitol Central will be on Jan. 30.

There were nine and eight vaccinators were infected with the virus in SM City Mall and Ayala Malls Capitol Central, respectively.

Meanwhile, based on the real-time record obtained by the EOC on Jan. 21, this city has recorded 206 new COVID-19 cases in a single day.

Sorongon said this is the highest record of COVID-19 cases in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

He reasoned out that the spike of COVID-19 here is considered as the spread of the Omicron variant and another thing is the conduct of surveillance testing.

The higher number of COVID-19 cases in Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital that infected several of their personnel aside from the patients admitted therein also contributed to the spike of the cases in this city, the EOC official stressed.

Sorongon said we are expecting that the cases continue to increase since the city will conduct massive testing in the afternoon yesterday, Jan. 21 to all employees of the Bacolod City Government Center because many of them were experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

The Hall of Justice in this city will also conduct surveillance testing on the same day./PN
