LEZO, Aklan – Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) held a hearing on the latest rate application of the Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) in light of its power purchase agreement with Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC).
The PCPC is the newest circulating fluidized bed combustion power plant in Concepcion, Iloilo.
The hearing was held at the Akelco main office in this town on Feb. 2.
Atty. Rosanne Jeli Magtagnob, ERC hearing officer, presided. Akelco officials and consumers attended.
Engr. Alexis Regalado, Akelco general manager, said they are sourcing 7 megawatts (MW) of the contracted 10 MW from the PCPC and applying for a generation cost lower than its existing contracts.
“This is the cheapest generation rate application of Akelco, and we are hoping for the ERC’s approval,” Regalado said.
The above rate is lower compared to other Akelco power sources from Iloilo.
Akelco purchases power from Panay Energy Development Corp., a coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City, and diesel plants in Iloilo, including Panay Power Corp. and Salcon Island Power Corp.
The average power demand of Akelco is 48 MW. It is expected to increase due to the economic growth in Aklan and Boracay./PN
