MANILA – Ilonggo taekwondo jin Cyd Edric Esmaña had another golden finish when he topped the Male Cadet Blackbelt Poomsae Category of the 2021 Smart/MVPSF Online National CPJ Speed Kicking and Poomsae Championship, Sunday.
A standout of the Iloilo Mark Victoriano Pinggol (MVP) Taekwondo Gym, Esmaña garnered eight points and bested silver medal winner Joshua Aaron Erece of Baguio Defenders and bronze medalists Jose Louis Llarena of SIPA TKD/Ateneo and Caleb Angelo Calde of Baguio Defenders.
Prior to this triumph, the Ateneo de Iloilo product won gold as the country’s representative in the Recognized Individual Blackbelt Male Poomsae Category of the 2021 World Taekwondo Asia Online Poomsae Open Championship.
Alexis Eunice Araneta also delivered gold for the Iloilo MVP stable due to her impressive performance in the Female Blackbelt Free Kicking, beating Francesca Aligora of NETCC and Team Phikoma Cadiz City’s Erich-Eunin Geli and Ayesa Manangan.
Julianna Martha Uy and Red Dyron Lusaya got silver medals in Cadet Female Blackbelt Poomsae and Cadet Male Blackbelt Free Kicking, while Andria Margaret Palabrica had bronze in Gradeschool Female Blackbelt.
Meanwhile, Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen bagged three gold medals courtesy of Arthur Diaz (Male Finweight Speed Kicking), Jerick Joseph Paiwas (Male Lightweight Speed Kicking), and Leigh Andee Rodriguez (Female Lightweight Speed Kicking).
The Negros Occidental-based taekwondo squad netted silver from Julio Miguel Zapata (Men’s Flyweight Speed Kicking) and bronze from Ceanne Kyle Rosquillo (Senior Men Poomsae).
Far Eastern University’s Ma. Regina Abello, on the other hand, led the Zarraga Taekwondo Dojang with her silver medal finish in the Senior Women Black Belt Welterweight Category. Jose Ricardo Subong Jr. and Jel Marie Subong contributed bronze medals each for the stable of head coach Angelo Herradura Osayda in the Senior Blackbelt Male Finweight and Senior Blackbelt Female Finweight, respectively./PN
