MANILA – Ilonggo taekwondo player Cyd Edryc Esmaña finished second place in the overall male championship of the 3rd Lents Taekwondo Worldwide Sports Online Poomsae Open Championships held recently.
Esmaña, a standout from Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym, settled for a silver medal finish in the battle among all gold medalists from recognized poomsae blackbelt individual division.
Esmaña, a student of Ateneo de Iloilo, submitted 7.430 points, just behind gold medalist Eric Gun Sungyhun of the United States, who ruled the poomsae event with his 7.730 points.
Head coach Denmark Pinggol said he was proud of Esmaña as he was the lone Philippine representative in the tournament’s category for gold medal winners in recognized poomsae around the world.
“Cyd Edryc is one of my most hardworking players so I am not surprised that he is excelling even against taekwondo jins from around the world,” Pinggol told Panay News.
In the other events of the online tournament, Crisgel Castro took home the gold medal in the Beach Poomsae in Cadet Male Blackbelt, while Joshua Cachero and Niesha Kariz Pequierda settled for silver and bronze medals in the U30 Male Blackbelt and Cadet Female Blackbelt, respectively.
Ilongga jin Beatriz Karina Belicena, on the other hand, teamed up with Gilbert Jamena of the United States to clinch the bronze medal in team poomsae.
The 3rd Lents Taekwondo Worldwide Sports Online Poomsae Open 2021 is one of the prestigious online taekwondo event participated by the best taekwondo jins in the world./PN
