ILOILO – For six days, the municipal hall of Estancia is off limits to the public.
The building will be thoroughly disinfected, according to Dr. Greg Rolan Sumile, team leader of the Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force (MIATF).
Yesterday, Sumile revealed an employee of the municipal government tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). He, however, failed to provide further information on the town’s latest infection.
To stem the further spread of COVID-19, the MIATF issued Resolution No. 2 temporarily suspending the operation of the municipal government from Jan. 29 to Feb. 3.
The following, however, will remain open: market, feeder port, quarantine facility, Emergency Operation Center, and Municipal Health Office.
“There is a dire need for prompt contact tracing to identify the close contacts of the confirmed patient,” Sumile said.
He instructed all close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 patients to undergo reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test. They were likewise advised to undergo strict home quarantine and seek consultation should they experience symptoms like fever, cough, vomiting, difficulty breathing and loss of taste or smell.
Sumile also urged the public to strictly observe safety health protocols like wearing of facemasks, social distancing and hand-washing.
As of Thursday, Estancia had a total of 36 coronavirus infections.
Of the number, one was tagged active, 29 recovered and six died./PN
