ILOILO City – Councilor Ely Estante Jr. has been elected president of the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL) – Iloilo City chapter. He ran unopposed.
Estante got a total of eight votes. Four of the city councilors did not participate in the election – Romel Duron, Rudolph Ganzon, Plaridel Nava, and Irene Ong.
The city councilors held their election on Aug. 31 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Session Hall.
The election was presided by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Iloilo City director Oscar Lim with assistance from City SP Secretary Ruth Arroyo and City Sangguniang Kabataan president and ex-officio SP councilor Leila Luntao.
Estante is the most senior councilor in the city council in terms of length of service. He is now serving his third term of office.
The former radio broadcaster was first elected councilor in 2004 and remained undefeated in all six elections.
Meanwhile, all other city councilors who ran for PCL-Iloilo City officers were also unopposed. They were the following:
* Miguel Treñas – vice president
* Atty. Frances Grace Parcon Torres – secretary general
* Dr. Candice Tupas – treasurer
* Johnny Young – auditor
* Atty. Sedfrey Cabaluna – public relations officer
* Alan Zaldivar – business manager;
* Dr. Urminico Baronda and Rex Sarabia – directors/PN
