Evaluation for Bacolod City’s ‘cleanest, greenest’ brgy starts

BACOLOD City – The evaluation for the Search for the Cleanest, Greenest and Most Well-Managed Solid Waste Management Program of Urban and Rural Barangays in this city has started.

Two evaluation teams – A and B – were deployed on Monday for the first assessment that will last until Sept. 7.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairwoman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on environment and ecology, said the second assessment will be from Oct. 1 to 19.

Rojas and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, head of the city government’s Solid Waste Action Team, are spearheading the search.

The teams will be visiting all 61 barangays in Bacolod to check their solid waste management practices.

Team A is composed of representatives from the Bacolod Housing Authority, Department of Education, City Legal Office, City Health Office (CHO), City Agriculture Office, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Administrator’s Office, and City Engineer’s Office.

Members of Team B, on the other hand, include representatives from the City Planning and Development Office, City Tourism Office, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Interior and Local Government, Public Affairs and Assistant Office, Department of Public Services, CHO, and CENRO.

Rojas said the first day of the evaluation went well, adding that Bacolod villages were all practicing proper waste disposal.

She said the search would be a “great help” in maintaining cleanliness in the city.

There are two categories for the search – rural and urban.

The first place winner in the rural category will receive P350,000 worth of projects.

The second placer will get P250,000 worth of projects, third placer, P200,000 worth of projects, fourth placer, P150,000 worth of projects, and fifth placer, P100,000 worth of projects.

In the urban category, the first placer will receive P300,000 worth of projects; the second placer, P200,000 worth of projects; third placer, P150,000 worth of projects; fourth placer, P100,000 worth of projects; and fifth placer, P50,000 worth of projects.

Ten consolation prizes – P20,000 each – in the rural category and 30 consolation prizes – P15,000 each – in the urban category will also be given away./PN
