SAN JOSE, Antique – The new provincial fire marshal of Antique told the public to make fire incident prevention a way of life.
“Every day is fire prevention day,” said Provincial Fire Marshal Randy Pudadera.
Pudadera said he instructed the personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Antique to regularly hold fire safety inspection in all business establishments, public and private schools and institutions, and barangays in the province.
These inspections must first be coordinated with barangay officials, Pudadera stressed.
Out of 18 towns in the province, only 13 have municipal fire stations with fire trucks and firefighters, Pudadera said.
Among these towns without fire stations were Hamtic, Anini-y, Barbaza, Tibiao, and Caluya.
But Pudadera said the five towns have already secured lot properties for their respective soon-to-be-built municipal fire stations.
They are now waiting for the BFP national headquarters’ next instruction, he added.
On the other hand, there were more fire incidents in the province last year than in 2016, BFP records showed.
In 2017, there were 85 while in 2016, 73.
The cost of damage was higher in 2016, though, at P25,959,500 compared to 2017’s P8,151,203.(With report from Vicente Villavert/PIA/PN)
