KALIBO, Aklan – Former Banga mayor Antonio Maming is transferring residence as a registered voter in this capital town.

Maming, who has a house in Barangay Estancia, filed an “application to transfer registration record due to change of residence” from Banga to Kalibo with the Commission on Elections provincial office.

Speculations are rife that Maming will run for mayor of Kalibo in 2019.

Maming ran for governor in May 2016 but lost to Florencio Miraflores.

His wife, Erlinda, won a second term as mayor of the neighboring town of Banga.

A candidate must be a resident of the place where they seek to be elected at least a year before Election Day, according to Section 39 of Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code.

Maming applied for transfer of residence on March 10.

In February he confirmed he has parted ways with party mate Rep. Carlito Marquez and switched to the camp of Miraflores and former Aklan representative Teodorico Haresco Jr.

It was believed that his decision did not sit well with supporters of Marquez and Kalibo mayor William Lachica.

If Maming seeks the Kalibo mayoral seat, he will face the “anointed” candidate of Lachica, who is now serving his third term. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
