BACOLOD City – A former village official was shot dead in Bindoy, Negros Oriental.
Barangay Panciao kagawad Elmer Cabaya died of a gunshot wound on the chest, police said.
He was shot on Friday morning in Sitio Abaka, Barangay Panciao.
Officers from the Bindoy municipal police station said robbery was not the motive in the shooting. The victim’s P3,000 cash was still with him when found.
According to initial investigation, Cabaya was a former sympathizer of the New People’s Army. But he renounced his support to the rebel movement and worked as an intel for the Army.
Police said Cabaya had been receiving death threats found in his mobile phone.
