BACOLOD City – A former councilor of Sagay City in Negros Occidental may face charges for alleged cutting of endangered trees under the National Greening Program (NGP).
A complaint filed with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) said that the trees planted by Charlie Añalucas, a beneficiary of the NGP, covering a total of 89 hectares in Brgy. Celestino Villacin, Cadiz City and inside the Northern Negros Natural Park were cut down in August of this year.
A ground survey by a composite team of personnel from the PENRO, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Philippine National Police, and Philippine Army will be conducted at the site on Nov. 16 to complete the investigation.
A copy of the complaint points to former Sagay City councilor Samson Añalucas as the suspect in the alleged cutting of trees in the protected area./PN
