BACOLOD City – Police shot and killed an illegal drug suspect during an operation in Barangay San Jose, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.

The Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18) identified the fatality as “ex-police officer” Rey Antonio Saga of the same village.

Saga sold to an undercover officer a plastic pack of suspected shabu for P1,000 around 2:50 a.m. on Sunday.

Sensing that he was being entrapped, Saga drove his motorcycle to escape.

Operatives from the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office went after him, but it turned out the drug suspect had a firearm, the PRO-18 said.

Saga fired at the officers, prompting the latter to shoot back, said the PRO-18.

Police searched Saga’s body and found five more plastic packs of suspected shabu weighing a total of 11 grams. Based on Dangerous Drugs Board estimates, the alleged prohibited substance cost P165,000./PN
