‘Ex-Hinigaran drug group member’ shot to death

BACOLOD City – An alleged former member of a drug group in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental was shot to death.

Police said the suspects were his colleagues in the group.

The 34-year-old Samson Faniega Jr. of Sitio Tugbungan, Barangay 2, Hinigaran sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the body.

Faniega was brought to the Hinigaran Emergency Clinic where attending physician Dr. Eduardo Duran pronounced him “dead on arrival.”

The suspects – who were on board a motorcycle – fled after the shooting around 6:45 a.m. on Thursday on Lopez Jaena Street in Barangay 1, Hinigaran, police said.

Faniega is listed as the No. 2 most wanted drug personality in the Hinigaran municipal police station.

He was driving his tricycle when the gunmen fired at him.

Municipal police head Chief Inspector Jake Barilla said the Faniega is a former members of the Ramos drug group which operates in Hinigaran and other parts of the province.

Recovered from the crime scene were three empty shell and a live bullet of a .45-caliber firearm, police said.

The officers were still identifying and locating the suspects.

Investigation was still ongoing.

‘He pointed a gun at us!’

BACOLOD City – A security guard of an apartment in the city pointed a gun at three men for no apparent reason, a Police Station 2 report showed.

The 48-year-old Barangay Alijis resident Jerry Cabayao was arrested and jailed after a complaint was filed against him.

The 28-year-old Benjamin Yee, 18-year-old Kyle Enric Comerciase and 18-year-old Christian Cyde Jereza filed the complaint.

They told the police that Cabayao was drunk and without provocation pointed his gun at them along 17th Lacson Street in Barangay 50 around 12:15 a.m. on Friday.

Recovered from Cabayao’s possession was a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with two live bullets.

A charge for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, was filed against Cabayao, police said. (With Mae Singuay/PN)

Man found dead at Bacolod Reclamation Area

BACOLOD City – Officers from Police Station 2 have yet to identify the man who was found dead at the Reclamation Area in Barangay 2.

The dead man bore a gunshot wound on the head, a police report showed.

A security guard of Bredco Port found the body on Friday.

The man was estimated to be 35 to 40 years of age. He was wearing black pants and a white shirt, police said.
