Ex-LWUA head Larry Jamora passes away

ILOILO City – Former Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) head Lorenzo “Larry” Jamora passed away. He was 73.

It was former City Councilor Dave Jamora, Larry’s nephew, who confirmed the latter’s demise on Friday due to a lingering illness.

Larry was the administrator of LWUA from 2001 to 2006.

He also served as the general manager of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) from 2007 to 2008 and a Presidential Adviser for Water back in 2009.

In 2010, Lorenzo run for city mayor but lost to then Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Tributes on social media poured for the late LWUA chief.

Among those who extended sympathies was the IIoilo Business Club (IBC).

“We grieve the loss of a business leader in Iloilo. He was a dedicated public servant, a hardworking generous businessman, a god fearing family man with an extraordinary heart for people around him. He is an advocate of change and a vocal champion of issues affecting the community,” the IBC said in a statement.

Mayor Jerry Treñas also mourned Larry’s passing.

Although Larry was his political nemesis, Treñas said he was surprised when the former called him, saying he will donate P1 million for the city’s coronavirus response.

Treñas said he was grateful for Larry’s deed and he received the donation together with residents of Iloilo City./PN
