MANILA – Former national security adviser Rogelio “Roilo” Golez passed away on Monday. He was 71.
Golez, who served during the Macapagal-Arroyo administration, died of heart attack, said his son Rico, vice mayor of Parañaque City.
Prior to his death, Golez managed to do an interview with radio station dzRH where he talked about the alleged landing of Chinese military planes at the Davao City airport.
“Refueling was apparently not part of Mutual Logistics Support Agreement, like that between the Philippines and the United States,” he said. “The military [was] not aware of China’s plane landing.”
“Did plane load or offload cargo? That must be clarified, should be made transparent. What was its route and why was Davao along route? Indonesia or Australia to China? It has a range of 3,000 to 7,000 kilometers, depending on load,” he said.
Golez was born on Jan. 9, 1947 in Looc, Romblon.
A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, he was a former Philippine Navy officer.
He was a House representative of Parañaque for six terms, from 1992 to 2001, before serving as national security adviser from 2001 to 2004.
Golez was one of the strongest supporters of the Philippines’ claims on the West Philippine Sea. (Adrian Stewart Co/PN)
