‘Ex-NPA’ shot to death

BACOLOD City – An alleged former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was shot to death in Barangay San Antonio, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez Jr., officer-in-charge of the Himamaylan City police station, said they learned about the fatal shooting at around 6:30 a.m. Friday from barangay officials.

Village officials identified the victim only as “Dagohoy,” a resident of the barangay and a cane cutter. They claimed that Dagohoy was a former rebel, Benitez said.

The victim died of multiple gunshot wounds on the body, police said.

Officers responded to the report but the attackers were no longer there when they arrived, Benitez said.

According to witnesses, the gunmen arrived at the field and went up straight to Dagohoy, who was with other cane cutters.

A brief altercation ensued before the shooting. The suspects shouted, “Mabuhay ang NPA,” and left. They did not harm any of the other cane cutters, said Benitez.

Investigation into the incident continues./PN
