ILOILO – Five retired PBA players are set to reinforce a local basketball team that will play an exhibition match against Team Anilao as part of the Banaag Festival on Oct. 21 in Anilao, Iloilo.
Among the former PBA players that will see action are Willie Miller, Gary David, Kenneth Duremdes, Marlou Aquino and Noli Locsin.
Also in the team is Nigerian slam dunk specialist Jeffatkins Aguara.
Miller is a two-time PBA MVP and a four-time PBA champion. He has played for Red Bull Barako, TNT Katropa, Alaska Aces, Barangay Ginebra Kings and Global Port Batang Pier.
He also played for the national men’s basketball team.
David is a one-time Best Player of the Conference awardee. He has suited up for Coca-Cola Tigers, Air 21 Express, Batang Pier, Meralco Bolts, San Miguel Beermen and Mahindra Floodbuster.
He is also a one-time Gilas Pilipinas member.
Duremdes is a former PBA MVP and six-time PBA champion. He played for the Sunkist Orange Juicers, Aces, Sta. Lucia Realtors and Tigers.
He has also served as head coach for Tigers before.
Aquino is a former PBA rookie of the Year awardee and played for the Kings and Bolts franchise. He also played for the Philippine team before in Asian Games.
Locsin, a former top overall pick in the PBA Draft and two-time champion, played for Kings, Pop Cola Panthers, Tanduay Rhum Masters, Red Bull, Talk N Text and Realtors.
“This is a treat to our basketball fans in Anilao and also to local players. It is not everyday they get a chance to face former PBA players in an exhibition match,” said event organizer Ruding Villaruz./PN
