BACOLOD City – A former police officer was shot dead while driving his motorcycle along Lizares Street in front of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) late Thursday night.
The 41-year-old Ryan Lumogdang was a resident of Celine Homes, Barangay Estefania. He was on his way home from Barangay Taculing when attacked by riding-in-tandem gunmen after a short chase.
Citing accounts from witnesses, Police Station 6 commander Police Major Leo Estopa said Lumogdang fell from his motorcycle.
One of the gunmen dismounted from their motorcycle, finished Lumogdang off with a shot on the head, returned to their motorcycle and sped away.
Lumogdang had the rank of Police Officer 1 (Police Patrolman) when he was still a cop under the Bacolod City Police Office. In 2013 he was awarded the Philippine Natioal Police Medalya ng Papuri.
In 2014, Lumogdang was wounded while responding to a commotion in a food park on 24th Lacson Street.
However, in 2015 Lumogdang tested positive for illegal drug during a random drug test. He was dismissed from the service.
Following his exit from the police force, Lumogdang worked as a gym instructor. His wife was a nurse./PN
