KALIBO, Aklan – Officers from the anti-narcotics unit of the Makato police station arrested a former seaman for allegedly selling drugs.
The 65-year-old Genaro “Dodong” Torno of Barangay Calangcang, Makato, Aklan was nabbed after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer for P1,000 on Monday, a police report showed.
When frisked, Torno yielded two more sachets containing the same substance.
But Torno denied the allegation, saying that the suspected shabu recovered from him were “planted.”
“Nataniman ako. Halos 21 years ako sa barko at never akong gumamit ng illegal drugs,” he added.
Torno’s wife, the 64-year-old Leticia, also belied the allegation against her husband.
“One-hundred percent saksi ang Diyos, hindi siya involved [sa illegal drug activities]. Mananagot kayo sa Diyos sa ginawa ninyo sa asawa ko,” Leticia said.
Torno was driving a tricycle when officers from the Makato police station and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit flagged him down on Calangcang road which is a few meters away from the provincial highway.
At the time, Torno was heading to the Aklan provincial hospital in this capital town to fetch a dialysis patient.
“Retired seaman siya. May hulugan kami na motor para may kita din kami,” said Leticia. “Sa umaga, may sinusundo ang asawa ko sa Makato at hinahatid sa provincial hospital para sa dialysis at nagdadala din siya ng mga karne galing sa meat shop para sa Kalibo.”
Torno was detained at the Makato police station lockup facility and facing charges for violation of sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
