ILOILO City – A former security guard was arrested at his house in Barangay Batonan Sur, Culasi, Antique for possessing unlicensed firearms during a police operation on Friday, February 28.
The 44-year-old alias “Den” was taken to Culasi Municipal Police Station (MPS). He will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Joint operatives of the Culasi MPS and 2nd Antique Provincial Mobile Force Company executed the operation through the strength of a search warrant around 2:05 p.m.
Among the recoveries were:
* two caliber .38 revolvers,
* caliber .45 pistol,
* 12-gauge shotgun,
* an improvised shotgun, rifle type,
* one magazine for caliber .45 pistol,
* assorted ammunition, and
* assorted empty shells of different calibers.
Police Colonel Lea Rose Peña, director of the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO), said they are still investigating if the suspect is engaging in gunrunning activity in Antique.
“The suspect is under investigation because he is possessing assorted firearms. Baka ang ibang baril ay pagmamay-ari ng kompanya nya kasi dati syang security guard or he is a gunrunner,” Peña said.
Meanwhile, Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), praised the APPO leadership and its subordinate units for the relentless and intensive campaign against loose firearms.
“This accomplishment is very laudable. Seizing assorted firearms is a way to deny the opportunities of using these in committing a crime. We always ensure that communities are safe and secure, thus our endeavor against loose firearms remain aggressive,” said Wanky.
He then encouraged other individuals possessing undocumented or loose firearms to deposit or surrender their firearms to the nearest police stations./PN
