Ex-village chief nabbed for guns, ammo

ILOILO City – A former village chief was arrested in Barangay Barasalon, Janiuay, Iloilo for possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The 42-year-old Vilmar Maderable was being held at the Janiuay police station.

Authorities recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, a .38 revolver, a .9mm pistol magazine and assorted spent shells.

“Damo nabaton namon nga reklamo sa iya nga nagapalupok permi that’s why we searched his house,” Janiuay police chief Captain Alwin Salmon told Panay News.

A search warrant issued by Judge Gemalyn Faunillo-Tarol of the Regional Trial Court–Branch 76 was implemented around 4:10 a.m. yesterday, March 13.

Maderable faces charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director, Brigadier General Leo Francisco, recently emphasized the implemention of Tokhang Kontra Armas Luthang (TKAL) program of the Philippine National Police.

“I want my men to focus on loose firearms and those who possess homemade firearms,” Francisco said.

The PRO-6’s top cop said TKAL program is a big help in curbing crimes involving firearms and the proliferation of homemade guns.

“TKAL program aims to account for loose firearms and firearms with expired licenses, and it also neutralizes private armed groups, motorcycle-riding suspects, riding-in-tandem suspects, gun-for-hire groups, and other criminal groups,” he said./PN
