ILOILO – A former president of the Association of Barangay Councils in Ajuy town was arrested for unlicensed firearms and ammunitions.
From his house in Barangay Tipakla, Ajuy, the 49-year-old Nolasco Castro was taken to the municipal police station.
He was collared after the raid of his house on Thursday yielded a 12-gauge shotgun, a .22 rifle, assorted ammunitions for a .9mm pistol, .45 pistol, and M14 armalite rifle, and seven pistol holsters. The guns were unlicensed.
The 6:45 a.m. raid was carried out by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Ajuy police station. The search warrant was issued by Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court.
According to Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento, Ajuy police chief, they received information that Castro – former barangay captain of Tipakla – hoarded unlicensed guns.
“We are investigating if the suspect is into gun-running or if he’s only collecting firearms,” Sustento said.
