MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers overcame a tough challenge from Farm Fresh Foxies for a 28-26, 20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-8 victory in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Jolina dela Cruz posted a triple-double of 27 points, 10 excellent digs, and 10 excellent receptions, while Ivy Lacsina chipped in 27 markers as the Cargo Movers improved to a 3-2 win-loss slate.
Lacsina took over in a virtual one-on-one duel with Foxies’ Trisha Tubu in the fifth set, coming through with a couple of kill blocks and a pair of hits early as the Cargo Movers raced to a 4-0 and 5-1 lead.
As Tubu snapped the Foxies’ spell with a three-hit blast to put Farm Fresh back in the match at 3-6, Lacsina kept on her scoring spree, delivering a kill and an ace to secure the win for the Cargo Movers.
“Siempre it’s still a learning process. Maybe this is part of birth pains of having a younger crop of players, kasi karamihan ng nasa loob, mga bata,” said Cargo Movers head coach Regine Diego.
“So, kailangan pa rin silang turuan how to score, what to feel, ano yung play. Marami pang kailangan na guidance but a win is a win,” added Diego. “But we have to learn every game kasi yung mga next matches will be tougher.”
Tubu finished with a career-high of 30 points, including 28 on attacks, to go with 12 excellent digs, Kate Santiago added 14 points and eight excellent receptions while Negrense Alyssa Bertolano had 10 points as the Foxies dropped to 0-7.
Meanwhile, Cignal HD Spikers overcame a third set meltdown to score a 25-17, 25-17, 24-26, 25-11 victory over PVL newcomer Galeries Tower Highrisers to stay in contention.
Rookie Vanessa Gandler had another impressive showing as she finished with 14 points to lead the HD Spikers, which improved to a 4-2 record with their third consecutive victory.
In the other match, Deanna Wong displayed her efficient ball distribution with 20 excellent sets as Choco Mucho Flying Titans prevailed over Nxled Chameleons, 25-11, 25-20, 25-19./PN
