MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers made its Premier Volleyball League debut with a resounding 25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22 victory over Black Mamba-Army Lady Troopers on Wednesday at the Paco Arena and Sports Center in Manila City.

Kim Kianna Dy spearheaded the offense with 20 points, on 15 attacks, four blocks, and a service ace, as the Cargo Movers surged to 1-0 in the powerhouse Group A.

Victorinara Galang added double-double 11 points and 15 digs, while Mary Joy Baron and Ilongga Abigail Maraño chipped in 10 and nine markers, respectively, for the Cargo Movers.

Iris Tolenada also had a solid F2 Logistics debut with 27 excellent sets laced with two points, while Dawn Macandili manned the floor with 19 digs and eight receptions.

From a close game in the fourth set, the Cargo Movers got consecutive hits from Maraño and Galang for a 19-17 lead before Baron scored a block on Lady Troopers’ Jeanette Villareal.

The Lady Troopers trimmed the deficit to 19-20 but four straight points from Baron and Dy handed the many-time Philippine Superliga titlist Cargo Movers their first victory in the PVL.

Honey Royce Tubino tallied 18 points, Michelle Morente collected nine points, 17 digs, and seven excellent receptions, while Anngela Bunag had 28 digs and 17 receptions for Army.

In the second game, Cignal HD Spikers provided the opening day sparks as it upended defending champion Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18.

Setter Angelica Cayuna stood tall for the HD Spikers in the fourth set with her efficient plays to her teammate as HD Spikers turned a 14-all score to a 24-17 advantage.

The Crossovers saved one match point from Jasmine Nabor but an error from the defending champions allowed the new-look HD Spikers to pull off the win./PN
