MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers spoiled the return of Jaja Santiago as it walloped Foton Tornadoes, 28-26, 25-15, 25-23, in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix over the weekend at San Juan Arena.
Venezuelan Maria Jose Perez finished with 19 points, on 15 attacks and four blocks, while Lindsay Stalzer added 12 markers for the Cargo Movers, which posted its ninth win in 12 matches.
Also making their presence felt were Victorinara Galang, who registered 11 markers, while Ilongga Abigail Maraño added 10 markers for the Cargo Movers, which will have a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals round.
Perez, who was tapped to replace Becky Perry, made her presence felt for the Cargo Movers, particularly in their searing run in the second set route to an easy straight-set win.
“I’m so happy to be back here in the PSL,” said Perez, the 2018 PSL Grand Prix MVP awardee. “It feels really great to play for F2 Logistics again. They’re like a family to me and I’m really so happy.”
Santiago, who returned to the Tornadoes after playing as import for Japan squad Ageo Medics in the V. Premier League, submitted seven markers while Import Courtney Felinski tallied 18 points for the Tornadoes, which dropped to 1-11.
Meanwhile, defending champions Petron Blaze Spikers completed a sweep of the elimination round after taking down struggling Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, 25-14, 25-17, 25-19.
Stephanie Niemer top-scored with 21 markers for the Blaze Spikers, which ended the double-round elimination with a perfect 14-0 win-loss slate and will have a twice-to-beat incentive against either Tornadoes and Lady Realtors in the quarterfinals./PN
