MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers kept its title hopes in the 2018 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference alive with a 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 win over Petron Blaze Spikers in Game 2 of the finals on Tuesday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Victorinara Galang led the way with 20 points, including 17 attacks, while Mary Joy Baron added 14 markers, on 10 attacks, three blocks and a service ace, for the Cargo Movers.
Aside from forcing a do-or-die on Thursday night at the San Juan Arena, the victory of the Cargo Movers also tarnished the unbeaten slate of the Blaze Spikers, which has won its first 13 games, including Game 1 of the finals.
“We were very emotional after the Game 1 loss,” said Cargo Movers coach Ramil de Jesus. “So I told them that all their supporters wearing yellow in the crowd were counting on us. We want to win it for them.”
Cha Cruz-Behag also had an all-around performance for the Cargo Movers with 13 markers, including the game-clinching attack in the fourth set, to go along with 25 digs and 15 excellent receptions.
Michelle Morente and Ilongga Abigail Maraño also had valuable contributions as they combined for 18 markers, while Kim Fajardo finished with 41 excellent sets for F2 Logistics.
“We were off in Game 1 like we didn’t know each other. In training, I told them, it could be over in Game 2, but if we want to bounce back, let’s bounce back. Fortunately, it worked,” De Jesus said.
Frances Molina bounced back from her scoreless outing in Game 1 with double-double 17 points and 19 digs for the Blaze Spikers but not enough to steer her team to coronation.
Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas added 11 markers, while Negrense Bernadeth Pons finished with 10 points for the defending champions Blaze Spikers./PN
