ANTIQUE – After Aklan and Iloilo, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 6 will be in Antique for another facilitated subscriber identity module (SIM) registration.

This Friday, Feb. 10, NTC-6, together with Public Telecommunication Entities (PTEs), will be at the Liberman Sports Complex in Pandan town from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pandan mayor Tomas U. Estoperez Jr. encourages residents, including those from nearby towns, to grab the opportunity to register their SIMs.

Estoperez also called on barangay captains in Pandan to help disseminate the information on the facilitated registration.

NTC-6 recently held a facilitated registration in three areas – Lemery and Carles in Iloilo and Madalag in Aklan.

In three areas, a total of over 3,000 SIMs were registered: 983 in Lemery, 1,003 in Madalag, and 991 in Carles.

Only personnel from PTEs such as Smart, Globe and DITO assisted the subscribers to ensure data privacy.

Subscribers are only required to bring their SIM card, mobile phone (does not need to be a smartphone), and any valid government-issued identification (ID) cards or other similar forms of documents with photos that will verify the identity of the end-user, such as a passport, Philippine Identification Card, Social Security Service, Government Service Insurance System e-card, Driver’s License, National Bureau of Investigation clearance, Police clearance, Firearms’ License to Own and Possess ID, Professional Regulation Commission ID, Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID, Overseas Workers Welfare Development ID, Bureau of Internal Revenue ID, Voter’s ID, Senior Citizens ID, and among other valid government-issued ID with photo.

The facilitated SIM registration is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 11934, or the SIM card registration law; it provides for a 180-day registration period for SIM cards, which began on Dec. 27, 2022.

According to NTC-6 legal officer Atty. Deo Virgil Tan, the registration is only until April 26, 2023. The registration may be extended for a period not exceeding 120 days, depending on the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

All unregistered SIMs will automatically be deactivated.

“Deactivated SIM may only be reactivated after registration; provided, however, that reactivation shall be made not later than five days after such automatic deactivation,” read Section 5 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A. 11934./PN
