Fajardo headed for 6th Best Player title

June Mar Fajardo

MANILA – San Miguel Beermen center June Mar Fajardo closes in on his sixth PBA Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award as he continues to lord it over in statistical points (SPs) at the end of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

Data the league released yesterday showed the 6-foot-11 center has a total of 44.2 SPs powered by his semifinals averages of 22.9 points, 12.9 rebounds and 1.81 blocks per game.

It could be the 28-year-old Fajardo’s sixth PBA BPC trophy and fifth in a Philippine Cup conference, as he is also an early favorite to win his fifth consecutive PBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the season.

The BPC winner for the Philippine Cup will be announced during Game 4 of the Beermen-Magnolia Hotshots’ best-of-seven Finals series on April 4 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Currently Fajardo shares the top record (five) with former Beermen Danilo Ildefonso, one ahead of TNT KaTropa’s Jayson Castro, and two ahead of Mark Caguioa, Vergel Meneses, Eric Menk, and Alvin Patrimonio.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings forward Japeth Aguilar is on far second place in the BPC race with 36.7 SPs while Beermen’s Arwind Santos is on third with 36.4 SPs.

GlobalPort Batang Pier guard Stanley Pringle is on fourth place with 36.1 SPs while Blackwater Elite slotman John Paul Erram is on fifth with 35.3 SPs.

Rounding out the top 10 are Beermen’s Alex Cabagnot, Phoenix Fuel Masters’ Matthew Wright, Alaska Aces’ Calvin Abueva, Kings’ Earl Scottie Thompson, and Castro./PN
